Floppy Eyelid

Very lax eyelid.

A so-called floppy eyelid describes a much worn out eyelid with a strong stretch ability. It is often caused by repeated inflammations of the eyelid or constitutional conditions, as e.g. overweight.

Many patients with a sleep apnoea syndrome have a floppy eyelid too, because of their position during sleep; often in combination with a ptosis, an ectropium or an entropium.

The therapy is also in dependence of a possible underlying disease, whereas the eyelids can only be corrected by a surgical revision.
