Tear Gland Adenoma

When the upper eyelid is lifted, the altered tear gland is noticeable.

This alteration can be caused either by a sagged tear gland or by growth in the course of a disease. The pathology is characterized by swelling, foreign body sensation, problems with the tears and sometimes pains.

Diseases can be related isolated to the tear gland, as for example an adenoma. But sometimes there are systemic causes, as for example a viral infection or a lymphoma.

The treatment is not always surgically; it is dependent of the cause.
